Candidate Addresses Website Controversy

May 19, 2008 - Douglasville, Ga.: Igor Malanchuk, 43, Republican candidate for Chairman of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners said he had nothing to do with the controversy over a political website with the same name as his opponent, Tom Worthan. ( www.TomWorthan.com )

Malanchuk said he does not own or operate www.TomWorthan.com and he has no control over the content.

“My website is www.Igor2008.com . I registered that name and control the content”, Malanchuk said. “I want to state for the record that I had nothing to do with that site. The registered owner states that he is solely responsible for the content”.

Igor Malanchuk said the issue was brought to his attention Saturday at the Taste of Douglasville event where both candidates were campaigning. The two candidates greeted each other and spoke briefly about the website issue.

Apparently, Worthan used that domain names in his 2004 campaign but had neglected to reregister the name allowing anyone who wanted it to claim it. According to a disclaimer on www.TomWorthan.com the site has been for sales for some time.

Malanchuk said campaign websites allow candidates to promote their issues and give them a virtual “soapbox” to push ideas.

“A majority of people get there news from the internet now and it’s important to maintain an internet presence. My website offers a glimpse of the direction I feel the county should be headed”, said Malanchuk.
