Crime/Justice:

As chairman,

I will work to reduce crime in our communities by establishing crime prevention programs that educate the public on crime prevention and self-protection;

I will establish a "Scared Straight" type program for students and youth to better understand the consequences of their actions and the reality of being incarcerated;

I will not tolerate crimes against persons or property and we should use the criminal justice system to not only punish those who commit crimes against us, we must work to assure these offenders receive help in returning to our communities and becoming productive citizens.

I will work to find low cost solution to jail overcrowding while ensuring our citizens are protected.

I believe punishment must fit the crime. Recently, Douglas County has received considerable negative national and international publicity concerning our justice system. Discretion, fairness and common sense must be used in all cases. Educating the public of existing laws is a priority.
